I was referred here by a user when lamenting the fact that I had no place to post my work to get some good, honest critique.

Most of the forums I have been to fall into one of two categories:
Any feedback at all is few and far between and most posts go unnoticed.
The feedback I get is someone saying, "Good stuff", seeming from some sense of obligation, and offering no real critique - no advice.

I need feedback to push me, challenge me and drive me to improve.

Ideally, I would like to start a face to face writer's group some day - but I need some interraction with other aspiring writers and authors. If I ever open that bookstore, I will start one there. In the mean time, maybe this place will offer that in an environment where I am comfortable and can thrive.

So, here I am - hopeful.

Time will tell.

In addition to here, or you don't think I'll find what I'm looking for here?

At first glance, writing.com is ugly and seems cumbersome to navigate.

What is this "Respect Earned" thing, and how did I get one?
I looked in The Lore, but didn't see mention of it.
Sorry if I mieed it.

Thanks

Sorry.
Another question.

I tried posting a new topic in The Divine, and recieved:
Sorry, but only users granted special access can post topics in this forum.

What is this special access, and how can I get some of it?
Do I have to reach a certain level of posts before creating a thread there?

What other subforums have this restriction?

Thanks again.

Yes, writing.com does look ugly and is cumbersome to use, but it has a HUGE audience, in the hundreds of thousands of people. Posting work there and asking for feedback, you will actually get responses and they will generally be useful from like-minded folks.

Aestheteka is not a writing critique forum, although we certainly do that here. But to come in, and on your second post, submit a large chunk of narrative and ask us all to review it for you is a little . . . well, I think you know. Get to know the folks here first. For one thing, most of them have a definite slant toward the dark side.

Respect points are earned by other folks on the forum giving them to you. So someone must like you!

As a new member, you do not have authority / access to create topics. That has to be earned.

The chief moderator of the forum, Zen, has not been on in quite a while, so things have been a little quiet around these parts lately.

Anyway, hope that helps and a belated welcome to you!

Well, I shall certainly spend some time there and check it out.
Thanks.

Actually I don't know, unfortunately.
I am completely unaware of the etiquette and social standards on boards dedicated to writing and writers.
My wife used to go to one which requested that you review two for every one you post - that's the extent of my exposure to such places.
I apologize if I stepped over bounds or was presumptuous.

I'd like to.
From what I have read, the people here seem interesting.

Gotcha.
My guess, is it was probably just spuriousmonkey being nice and welcoming me to the forums. He was the one who recommended this place to me.

How?
Is there a page that explains this?

I've noticed that it's been pretty slow.
I thought maybe it got busier on the weekends, perhaps.
I hope it picks up, so I can get to know the people here.

Very much so, and thank you.

welcome one-raven.
we have a 20 post minimum before ne users can start creating threads as it gives us time to see if they're going to spam us or not. also, it gives the user a chance to see if they're going to fit in with, as HW said, 'the darker side'.

Welcome to the Dark Side....

I'm sure you will find a great many of help in this forum. I don't know everyone on this board personally but the two authors I am familiar with, Zen and HW, will be of great assistance and know their craft well.

Namaste-
Anora
